As a result I admit that I was overcome with

drowsiness in my office, and was for a short time urable te

discharge my duties.

The effect however was only temporery and I finished most of my work before leaving for the day.

On Friday morning I was still feeling very 111 but I attended at my office and carried or my work, and again I

was foolish enough to resort te alcohol; stimulant with a similar

result of drowsiness. I again finished most of my work before

leaving the office, leaving nothing important undone.

During the afternoon of the Erd. I received a

visit in my room from the Colonial Secretary in company with the

Head of the Sanitary Department, and I gathered from that visit

that I was likely to be suspended: this fact so affected me that

I could not sleep at all that night and suffered severely from

neuralgia with the result that I was quite unfit for work next

day (Saturday). I came to the office however at about 9.20 a.m.

and left a nete for the Reed of the Sanitary Department (who was

net then in) asking for sick leave on the ground of toothache.

As is usual in such osses I did not wait for a reply

but left the office immediately.

1

With regard to sick leave I beg to point out that

under the regulations I an entitled te 28 days sick leave in any

one calendar year, and that it is not necessary for an officer to

abtain a medical certificate unless he is absent on account of

sickness for more than two days.

siroo Friday morning (3rd. March) I have taken no

alcohol whatever.

On Monday the 6th. inatent I went to my office ea

usual and worked all day until about 4.20 P.M. when the Head of

the Sanitary Department informed me that I was suspended: I then

left the office having finished my work which was quite up to

date.

I am a member of the Police Reserve and carried out.

three hours' patrol on the evaning of the 6th, inst.
